Being a non-racer this year allows me (too) much free time to browse the various forums, including the USA! It seems, from what I can tell, that they might be in danger of losing their National status as a class within the SCCA. Now, there's many ideas being promulgated (big word, eh!) on the way to fix this, but one less obvious thought occurs....... Why not invite the serious racers over t'other side of the pond to ship their cars to the UK, and come and race with us!? That way, they get to race on brilliant circuits, with a full grid of Sports 2000 cars every time. The cost of flights, particularly from the East/West Coast, is possibly less than they spend (time and money) to haul their cars to their "local" track. I'm sure enough of us could "host" one US car at home to make it work. I guess even the pros (Snowdon/Danby/Mole/et al) would be cost-effective for some of them. Think about it. Another half-dozen-plus ( fast) Pinto cars in the mix, with a very newsworthy Transatlantic angle to spark the interest of the motorsport press. We might have to consider double-header weekends to give them sufficient bang for their buck, but wouldn't it be fun!!!
Anyhow, I'm not going to suggest it to them. Not enough "credentials" to be taken seriously. Anybody else think this is anything other than an idiotic idea............?
Must stop sniffing the glue!
