I have a Lola T492 for sale. It has been used as a sprint car with a BDT and FT 200, currently
has a Cosworth RS500 big turbo motor, but can be supplied with a new Connaught S2000 motor and a Mk9 Hewland. It has new 2 piece bodywork, and requires minor
finishing to return to S2000 spec. Open to sensible offers. Available in Surrey.

I will need some help on this one, but only for the box and (hillclimb) engine.
When I actually have the car at home I will post some pics, but it really is a beauty. It has a great 'chequered' history over time and is a bit of a bitza which appeals to me rather than a pure Lola. The Boss (wife...) tells me it must not have $$$$ spent on it for a recovery period of the finances, and I've told my daughter not to think about getting married for a while! Mike is a great bloke with a deep background in this types of car to say the least. Barry: Have you hillclimbed your Morgan at Loton Park? We sometimes get a swarm of Morgans there and the 3 wheelers are simply lunatic, so so bloody fast it is embarrasing! Graham. |

Yes, Loton is my favourite hill.
It is an absolute blast in a quick trike, but a bit tight in a big open wheeler. Always an excellent atmosphere, and easily the friendliest Marshalls and organisers anywhere. I like the idea of a "swarm" of Morgans. Maximum embarrassment for more expensive machinery, thats our goal. BD |

I am ex-President/committee member etc of Hagley and district car club, owners of the hill at Loton. Glad you see it that way! I remember that a few years ago, maybe last year you lot were quick enough to be almost a class winner, and close to my Subaru's time... A Swarm of Morgans sounds good, a Splinter of 4 wheeled Morgans? I think a Swarm is right:

Can anyone give me an idea of costs and 'availability' and location for: Hewland Mk9 box with reverse and brakes Duratec engine and dry sump kit/ adaptor Lower rear T 492 wishbones Seat (was thinking of using a Radical one) I could do with some listings of specialists for the above. I guess Burton for the engines, but are there places to find the gearboxes (one on ebay!) or are they harder to find than T 492's....? Graham. |

Seems Hewland Mk 8's are 2K, and Pinto engines about 3K depending on the Burton catalogue.....

A hillclimb start is violent and tramsmission snapping. They are rated to 150 lbft only. My lawnmower tolerates more. I do not know of a modern box that can be adapted to inbord brakes. Some are using AUDI 4 pot engine boxes, but how to get caliper mounts onto one? An FT 200 is the answer, but £5K is not viable. A Duratec is a great engine, but on what induction? |

A Duratec? In a 492? Surely not. The attraction of a 492 is that it's the iconic S2000. Build it to original Pinto specification and run Historic. That
way, you have the most fun for your money and an increasingly valuable asset in the car. Converting a 492 to Duratec is akin to putting upvc windows in a Grade
2 listed building. Entirely inappropriate.You'll just end up with a slow, over-stressed Class B Duratec car. What would be the point?

This chassis is quite a distance from stock T 492.
When I actually have it in the garage here I'll post some pics, but I doubt the suspension has any 492 parts, and I know the rear and front uprights are F3. It was a 'converted' 500 bhp Thunder/Super saloon with a Karmann Ghia body on it, but the chassis is 492. I love the bitza and colourful history, and there is a chance the Sport 2000 race series will appeal, but the car will be a hillclimber first, and will not be butchered This is why I wanted the car and there is no engine /trans in it at present, so freedom of choice. I would love a hairy engine/box (it had a Cossie 4 pot and FT 200 in it), but I am pretty sure it will finish with a Mk8 and Pinto, but the Pinto will be all steel (etc) for 200 bhp min, again right at the limit of the Mk8? Not to annoy anyone, but an AUDI 2 litre and box look exactly right and packed with performance, especially in turbo form (not an oil burner!) 300+ bhp available and the gearbox is littered with holes around the output shafts for inboard brakes. Mine for £1000 the lot on ebay. I'm pleased to be keeping this one alive and not broken. Graham. |

Hello Graham!
Not wishing to be rude about your plans, but the car is ultimately better configured as a Pinto. The amount of effort you'll expend on an Audi/anything else conversion is disproportionate to the end result, both in terms of performance and value. A tweaked Pinto, putting out @ 180 - 200 bhp will make the car very exciting to drive, while retaining all its attributes. When you're fed up with two to three minutes of excitement at a time, you can convert to S2000 spec and come play with us! If you're at a loose end on 31st May, come along to Silverstone. Bob Marston, who designed the 492, will be there. He's always happy to have his brain picked, and will be an invaluable source of information for you. Also, if you want a good basis for a tweaked Pinto, I have a US spec engine, full of proper bits (crank/rods/flywheel/pistons etc) which could be yours for relatively little money............. I agree absolutely.
If you are going to put in money and effort, build the car to be worth something, even if you put a Yankee motor in for the hills, it will still be worth serious proper historic money. As a bitsa, or a special, it is practically valueless. Anyone who's car has come from the States should be tripping over tweaked Pintos ( or perish thethought, being "economical" with their interpretation of the regulations.) Never thought of flogging them to hillclimbers. What a good wheeze. Thanks Rollo. I also have two US Pintos available for very small money, but as you told him first and thought of it, I'll try not to under-gazump you. Now Graham, I didn't want to go this far, but we need more Historic cars, so if you don't toe the line here......What is your wifes' name ?
