Well I've volunteered to kick this back into life. So the plan is to get 3 or 4 representatives from each championship. Then I can go to Autosport with the basis of a test session in place. Obviously dates to suit everyone will be an issue, which is why I am asking for so many cars. We only need one car from each championship on the day, but this way, with any luck, from a pool of cars we can make it work.
We need to get this organised fairly soon, the best time for publication is when drivers start thinking of what to do next season. It's going to take a few weeks to arrange and then I guess publication will be a few weeks later. So maybe towards the end of September for the article which should be ideal and allow potential newcomers to see a race or two.
I know some of the cars previously put forward are unfortunately no longer available, so can we start again.
Duratec 1. 2. 3. 4.
Pinto 1. Andy Mathew - Shrike P16 2. 3. 4.
Historic 1. 2. 3. 4.

Both my Carbirs are available and may make an interesting comparison? The Pinto car is still for sale by the way, and probably becoming more affordable as time goes by........ Paul |

Got as far as I could with Autosport early in the year. I met Kevin Turner (National Editor) and Ben Anderson (Editorial Assistant), who agreed to do the test
and provide the column inches but it then came down to getting the cars together for a suitable day. We were just heading into the season and I don't
think people were ready for it. However, just this week, I received a call from Andy Mathew, who is now, as you will see above, working to put the day
together. Plenty of cars being offered for the purpose. I'll get back to Kevin and Ben to revive the matter and check their availability. Colin,
you'll hear from Andy as I believe you may be able to pull a few strings with MSV to get the circuit time. All we need now is to fix the day.

Thanks everyone, a great response in just 24 hours. Looks like we can get this going at last. Just need some historic class cars now, anyone prepared to let a racing journalist test their pride and joy?

Pinto 1. Andy Mathew - Shrike P16 2. Paul Tickner - Carbir 3. Clive Steeper - Tiga 4. Rob Lacey - Royal 5. Colin Peach - Tiga 6. Bruce Balchin - Chevron

Sorry for the lack of updates on this, holidays have been getting in the way.
I have just spoken Autosport, they are very keen to get this organised and have said that we should get 3 or 4 pages of coverage. As we all know test days are not so easy to come by these days, so trying to find a day when everyone is free will present a challenge. The best day for the Autosport guys is Friday 18th September at Snetterton .
I can be there, so I need a commitment from one Duratec and one Historic car to be there on that day, I can then get it fixed in Autosports diary. If we have more than one car per championship even better, but obviously there is a limit as to how many cars can be driven in a day.
Initial thoughts on a publication date is as part of the build up to the Formula Ford Festival. |

The test session for Autosport is all organised and booked for Friday 18th September.
We have confirmed that 5 cars will be available on the day, (2 Duratecs, 2 historic, 1 Pinto).
If anyone else is planning a test day, please come along to this one as the more cars there, the better it looks for the club. Plus you may get your car featured in Autosport if there's time on the day for the test driver to get out in other cars.
The club is paying for the Autosport sessions. If however anyone wishes to take advantage of the day for some additional testing of their own, then a further fee will have to be paid. Please contact the circuit and book yourself in, in advance if you plan to do that.
There are to be 4x50 min sessions (2 morning, 2 afternoon) Andy |
