Now whose throwing their toys out the pram!!
Actually Glenn you have had years of debate, you and half a dozen other "big boys" keep bringing it up because you cant
get your own way. Democratically it was thrown out before and democratically it will be thrown out again.
Just accept it and move on or spend some time in the gym. Don't expect to penalize the majority of your fellow competitors
because of your eating habits. As I said before just because you constantly shout about your passion does not make your view any more important than other
peoples views.
You say you despise the increase in minimum weight yet you are quite happy to expect the majority of other competitors to add
extra weight to their cars so they can get closer to your all up weight.
The facts are the majority of Duratec cars are over the 500kgs in weight, the increase in minimum weight represents an increase
of 3%. It is irrelevant if you have a car at 480 or 300kgs we have been running at 500kgs so it is a 3% increase and I bet you there wont be any drop in lap
times next year compared to 2008. You cannot keep referring back to the 1970's when the weight limit was first introduced as even then the Lola T492 did
not get down to that weight when it was sold and I would say with today's regulations it would be impossible to get to that weight.
You keep mentioning this mythical car manufacturer that can make a sports racer to FIA 2008/9 regulations to 480kgs, well Glenn
name it and then we will see if it actually is so.
Our sister series in the US as you well know is struggling and I bet you they have increased their minimum all up weight since
the 1970's so you are living in a dream world not the real world.
The concept of Sports 2000 was not based on a good power/weight ratio it was based on a cheap to run 2L sports
racing car because the Group 6 cars were far too expensive for the club racer.
The point here is affordable, there is no way in a million years it would be affordable to get down to 480kgs, again if you think
it is then you are in your dream world. Carbon bodywork etc is NOT cheap and you will need that and a lot more besides and yes they used to make ultra thin
fibreglass body panels but these were thrown away after each race. Not a cheap thing to do nowadays.
I think we have the Hamilton's of this world already in our championship and there could be a few more coming in next year.
Its clear from your comments that your philosophy of no driving standards and cars looking like sheds (as you couldn't paint
them because of the weight penalty, and they would look tatty because of all the body contact) it is YOU that is out of step with our membership not
me.

Calm down Luv,
I'll admit that i may be out of step with some of the membership but i bet that i am far from alone. But that's not the point. We'are talking
about weight here. Are you saying that Carbir, Gunn, Lola, cannot produce cars at 480kg or even 500kg? That is not what i understand. What are these FIA
'safety measures' that weigh so much?

This thread has got silly.
When I was shooting clay pigeon competitively, I can't ever recal anyone saying "I can't see as well as the others, I want the targets nearer?" Similarly, I haven't seen any Tour de France cyclists asking if they can have bikes with motors on them because they aren't as fit as the other competitors. That said....I haven't seen any rules requiring the racing bikes to carry ballast so that the Pashley Princess works team can compete on a level field either. I do have two serious points: Point 1) Any formula or sport (or for that matter business) has rules. Sometimes they are made by a committee. Sometimes they are made by what I call a "Benevolent Dictator". We all know what happens with committees...its always a disater as the lunatics take over the asylum. To support this argument look at an extreme example......HM Govenment. SRCC Sp2 is fortunate indeed to have an excellent example of the 2nd alternative, a guy with vision and drive and a close team of great folk working with him to provide a superb club. Rules need to be tweaked now and then for whatever reason and when rules change there will always be someone who is dissaffected and gets the hump...this is life. But the inescapable fact is that it's Colin's bat and ball, and is any of us really really don't like it, we have perfectly good feet to walk away with. Of course I hope this won't happen as we will need all the help we can get over the next year or so. Point 2) I would like to request please Colin that you delete this thread.(Or at least the rude and squabbly bits) It has 2315 views as of time of writing, and although it is a topic which has clearly touched a few raw nerve-ends, I am not comfortable that this bickering gives a true picture of our fine club to the new folk we are trying to attract for next year. A committee couldn't do it, but a benign dictator can. For the over-all good of the club.............nuke-it. Barry D.

I have to agree with you Barry, this thread in no way reflects the state of the club which is the strongest its ever been as witnessed at the D&D raising
some £20,000 for the club so we can maintain our momentum forwards with all 3 of our championships.
Glenn, had you been at our AGM you could have answered your own questions as just one FIA safety requirement is the new thick and substantially heavier (several kgs) roll over bar. These all increase the weight of the car and none of the older cars have these. If you want to know more then just do your homework and go through the FIA regulations and find out for yourself. The VdeV minimum weight has gone up from 535 to 570kgs to accommodate these regulations. They did not want to increase the minimum weight but had no choice. Speak to those guys and you will find out why. As I said I repeat the vote on all up weight next mail shot but I'm afraid some changes are necessary to keep going forward, they didn't in the US and as a result S2 is in decline. I would be very happy to wipe this thread for the benefit of the club but would that start Glenn off again?? |

Forum: a) The public square or marketplace of an ancient Roman city that was the assembly place for judicial activity and public business.
b) A public meeting place for open discussion. c) A medium for open discussion or voicing of ideas , such as a newspaper, a radio or television programme, or a website. The level of interest in this particular thread supports the principle behind all the above. Some of the mud-slinging does not. Whether you can have one without the other is debatable. Is there a minimum time to be involved with the subject before your opinion counts? Will the silent majority ever speak? A rational debate, with all the correct information to hand, should eventually produce the best answers. The state of the club suggests that the right decisions have been made over time, mostly down to Colin's excellent stewardship. Doesn't mean you can't talk things through, does it.....? Rollo |

OR PERHAPS WHO IS BRUTUS.???? And Rollo I had never considered you to be a man of the classics, I am impressed. Now of course if you spent your time in the gym, rather than reading
Julius Ceasar in the arm chair while eating pies and drinking beer you would get down to 12.5 stone. You could then think everyone else should do so, like some
of the other skinny fellows. And of course you would be able to lap so much quicker but of course its not an advantage you know, being weaker means you
can't turn the wheel as fast, so you can't go round corners as fast and you don't get just too tired before the end of the race.

Was he the guy who never completed a lap?? Just keep the Vestibulel Virgins out of this thread Rollo or we will all need "stab proof "Togas and Hans
Devices in Hospitality, and Glenn ---- keep your French kisses to yourself, and the Paddock will be a safer place!
